The research activity of PERT on fuel cells has originated from the study of phosphoric acid cell systems (PRODE-PAFC plant in Milan) to develop and verify simulation models. Subsequently, the focus was on solid oxide cell systems as part of a European IEA team (Program of R, D & D on Advanced Fuel Cells, Annex II: Modeling & Evaluation of Advanced SOFC), in particular with reference to the optimization of the electrode morphology, the reaction scheme and the cell configuration.
