CCS&T

“Carbon Capture Storage and Transportation” (CCS & T) is a set of technological processes involving the capture of carbon dioxide (CO2) emitted by the industry, its compression and transport in an appropriate geological formation (such as oil fields or coal depletion) where it is injected, with the aim of isolating it from the long-term atmosphere.
CCS & T technology can be applied both to fossil fuel energy production plants, mainly coal and gas, and to industries with high CO2 emissions such as cement factories, refineries, steelworks, petrochemical industries.
Today, reducing greenhouse gas emissions (such as CO2) is one of the most important challenges we face: CCS & T could be a good option in a portfolio of existing and emerging technologies with the potential to cut CO2 emissions and, at the same time, allowing the continuous use of fossil fuels.
The PERT group’s expertise within the broad CCS & amp; T theme focuses mainly on:
• The study of the optimal conditions of CO2 transport in pipelines also through simulations carried out with commercial Aspen Plus technology;
• The capture of CO2 through chemical absorption processes with amines studied with the support of the Aspen Hysys commercial software.
