Short Curriculum Vitae

Giuseppe Piccardo was born in Genoa on November the 26th 1964 and took his degree in Civil Engineering (Building Section) at the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Genoa on March the 1st 1989. In 1993 he obtained his Ph.D. discussing the doctoral Thesis "Analysis of Coupled Aeroelastic Phenomena". Assistant Professor since November the 1st 1992, he is Associate Professor of Structural Mechanics since September the 1st 2000. He is a member of the Ph.D. board in "Structural and Geotechnical Engineering" at the University of Genoa. He has been invited for lectures in Italian and foreign Universities, in International Conferences and in Advanced Schools (CISM). From 1995 to 2001 he was the Secretary for the European and African Section of the International Association for Wind Engineering (IAWE). In February 1999 he was elected in the board of governors of the Italian Association for Wind Engineering (ANIV), and was the Secretary/Treasurer of this Association from 1999 to 2003. In January 2003 he was re-elected in the ANIV board of governors for the period 2003-2006. In July 2003 he was appointed IAWE Secretary General for the period 2003-2007. In 1999 he won the EASD-ANIV prize for a young European researcher, author of a research paper on a subject of Structural Dynamics or Wind Engineering. He is author or co-author of more than 80 papers concerning topics of linear and nonlinear structural dynamics, wind engineering, probability theory and statistics oriented to structural safety; among these papers, 23 are published in refereed international journals. He was member of the scientific committees of international and national conferences, session chairman of international and national conferences, reviewer for international journals and national and international conferences, supervisor for research doctorate students. He was member of a Study Group of the Italian National Research Council C.N.R. (2005-2009) having the task of arranging the new technical document of instructions concerning the wind actions on structures (CNR-DT 207/2008 "Guide for the assessment of wind actions and effects on structures"). As member of Research Unit he took part in several researches supported by MIUR (PRIN 1997, 1999, 2001, 2003, 2005, 2007) and by University of Genoa. He was the Scientific Responsible of the Genoa Research Unit financed in the PRIN 2002 (National Scientific Coordinator: prof. Giorgio Diana, Milan Polytechnic; Project of the Genoa Research Unit: "Fluid-structure interaction phenomena"). He was the Responsible of University Research Projects (2007, 2008) financed by the University of Genoa on topics of Structural Dynamics and Wind Engineering. He was the Scientific Responsible of research contracts concerning the study of wind actions on structures and the evaluation of vibrations on pedestrian bridges.
